Tuesday 4th March – our annual Pre-Cheltenham dinner at the fabulous OXO Tower restaurant.  A full house (sold out since January) saw Kirkland Tellwright (the recently retired Clerk of the Course at Haydock Park) regale the audience with a series of thoughts and anecdotes, which face the boss of a major racecourse on a daily basis.  

Then we had a round-up of celebrities being interviewed by the magician racing commentator and member Nick Luck, including Michael Buckley (owner of Constitution Hill, odds on favourite of the Champion Hurdle), Richard Thompson (of the Cheveley Park Stud) and our own member Ed Ware (Jimmy Du Seuil 2:40 and Copacabana 5:20 on the Wednesday), amongst several other of our notable guests.

Nick was then joined by member / trainers George Baker and Richard Phillips. Sadly Jim McGrath is missing the wonderful UK weather ,as he is still in Australia. Jim sent his tips in together with one of his best and longest phantom calls of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.  The audience was spellbound for 6 minutes and 9 seconds as Jim meticulously called each horse through the whole three miles, two and a half furlongs of one of the nation’s most prestige National Hunt races.  Epic.
